The Truth About Team Motivation

The One Thing You Need to Know about Team Motivation

Team Motivation

Team motivation? I bet you have asked yourself a couple of questions a number of time a business owner, team leader, a coach or a mentor with a bunch of people looking up to you.As much as i would love to make you believe there is such thing as team motivation, the truth of the matter is there is none. team motivation does not exist. Hey! don’t get me wrong yet ok. just read on and you will learn the best way to put your team together soon.

Ok let’s look at a case scenerio of a football manager. A football manager? oh yes! a football manager  because thats the best illustration i can picture since i am a loving football fan lol. pardon my sense of humor. Ok back to what i was about to say, the coach ‘motivates’ the team by getting them together at half-time and ‘explaining’ how they’re about to lose the game unless they start to play a lot better. The surest way to build highly motivated team is to focus on personal motivation among each individual, the reason? because we all have different learning curve.each individual person is complicated and complex and trying to build team motivation among a team is like fixing square pegs in round holes. As a coach, mentor, team leader  you must create an environment where the individual ‘motivates themself. Your job as a team leader, coach, motivator is to find out what these needs are, and satisfy them.If you can do this then you will build a successful team of highly motivated individuals who would put all they have on the table to make that which you strive for a success. So what are the steps you can follow?

1.Spend Time With Each Member Of  Your Team

Spending 10 to 15mins  quality time with your team member each time a week or two weeks is better than some AGM meeting or barbecue dinner that you hold once a year. You need to get to know the individual better and they need to get to know you. You will gain a much better understanding of them and how they ae handling the job. This will shows that you care about you people and not just a business or money money, work work situation.

2. Believe In Your Team

One vital ingredient that lacks in team motivation is the motivator believing in his team members. you need to to put up a sense of trust and confidence in them. Trust in itself is a moral booster and one quick way to motivate a team. When you put your people before time and money, and they know how lovely you treat and respect them.. there is the tendency to want to reciprocate that love. Its the law of reciprocacy.

3. Introduce Feedback Mechanism in Team Motivation

It is a good approach to inform your team member how good or bad they are responding to you, their work, and your general communication in and outside the office, training ground…you name it.Unfortunately this is were many employers ,managers, coaches, mentors, motivators fail in dealing with people. They suck at this and many fail at telling their employees, students, trainees how good or poorly they are responding to work, training,. Some managers still believe – “Why should I praise people when they’re only doing what they’re paid to do!”However, most employees want to know how they are performing in their job; they want to know if they are doing it right or how they could do it better. If you really want to motivate your team members then you need to ‘catch them doing something right’ and tell them about it. If, on the other hand, you hear or observe them doing something you’re not happy about, then you need to tell them what needs improved and coach them.I hope i have nailed the point to to you. it is time to smile. I leave you with this video. have fun and apply what you have learnt today. I look forward to seeing your success and feedback CIAO and wish you all the best of luck while appling the principles of motivation you have learned .Motivation is the only surefire way to succeed in motivating teams.
