Discovering the power of goal setting is the key to unlocking a whole new world of opportunities. Do you have a goal? a detailed plan of where and what you want to be 5 years from now? 10 years from now? I won’t be surprised if the answer is no. If you aspire to be above average, then the power of goal setting must be incorporated into your everyday life. Failures do what is tension relieving, while winners do what is goal achieving. Majority of us aspire for greatness without a set forth pattern of achieving that greatness. In 2006 I wrote down a 30 page plan of where i want to be 5 years, 7years thereafter. Whenever I look at the plans and goals i have set in place i am constantly reminded of what i need to do and also smile on what i have achieved. One of my plan is to retire from work at age 30.I still have 5 years to actualize that plan. Prior to documenting my goals, I was not in any active study nor knew where destiny would take me to then. Now I am a proud student of Network Computing in England ready to enter the information technology Era with a big bang boom.
As soon as you know your purpose for life, determine your vision and drive and take time to clarify what your actual needs and desire are.Thereafter you know how to convert them into specific achievable and measurable goals. The next thing to do is to act on them with a belief that you will achieve them no matter what. Self believe in yourself is a necessary antidote for achieving your goal setting plans. There are two things to aim at in life; first to get what you want, and after that to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind has achieved the second. ——- Logan Pearsall Smith
Ways To Unleash The Power Of Goal Setting
For a goal to be called a goal it must have a set time frame of achievement and must be specific. It must be stated in a way that your brain measures it as a set forth target to be reached on a specific time at a specified date. “I will lose 5pounds in 1 week and I will lose 5 pounds of weight on the 2oth of August 2010 by 5:15pm” are two different things.
Create A Goal Book (Have a documented Goal)
It is not just enough to say i want to accomplish a goal at a set date and time. We tend to forget things overtime as a result of life daily pressures and demands. As a determined person, It is mandatory that you write out your specific goals on a book and store it in a safe and easy to place accessible by you alone. Goal setting documentation is what i did and when I was embarking on my studies to England, it was the very first document i shoved into my travelling bag, not even my certificates or visa lol. That shows you how that means a lot. When you place your goal on paper your subconscious will know what to work upon and constantly review, this will send the message to your brain, allowing your body to secrete what I call a fulfillment hormone( a sense of an accomplished achievement) which is vital for premonition that will prompt your subconscious mind to bring into reality your set forth goal and vision and aspirations.
Set Goal That set You Out Of Your Comfort Zone
I am an evangelizer of setting big goals. I am against those that say we set unrealistic goals. As far as i am concerned no goal is unrealistic, what is unrealistic is people not pushing forward enough to zap out of their comfort zone to actualize that which they have set. Let no one tell you your goal is too unrealistic because it is not. Talking to people over a thousand mile was an unrealistic goal 200 years ago but today it is a reality, so also are other technological landmark such as flying from one continent to another today in a matter of hours as supposed to months of travel by road or sea five centuries ago.It pays to have goals that will push you beyond your imagined limit and stretch you to grow against your plans. It is very important to have these kind of goals that will push you off limit as it will allow you to grow to achieve them.
Reread Your Goals
It is one thing to have goal(s), it is another to implement them and constantly review them. Documenting your goals in a goals setting book is not enough. You have to constant reread your goals to your self on a regular basis. At least one a day.My goal book of 4 years ago is still starring at me today. I got inspired to write this post because I studied my goals book today. What would have happened had i not looked at it? had i not written it 4 years ago? This very weblog you are reading would not have been born or written. Goal setting is important so also is documenting and constantly reviewing and reading them on a daily basis.I leave you today in the care of a great teache,r zig ziglar as he shares insight on goal setting.
